POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe individual chosen for this position will lead Medtronic product and technologydevelopment efforts for the product and therapy markets in China. The emphasis willbe on modeling mechanical systems to predict forces, deflections, stress, and strainwithin complex medical device assemblies subjected to in vivo loading conditions. Thequalified candidate will work with cross-functional teams to define and analyze productrequirements for Medtronic in China and other Emerging Markets. The individual willreport to the Medtronic Shanghai Innovation Center (MSIC) Leader and will work closelywith Corporate Technology and Business Unit R&D teams to implement product andservice opportunities for China. Bearing in mind first principles, the Senior R&DEngineer will understand customer requirements, formulate a modeling approach thatwill address those requirements, independently carry out the modeling activities(internal or outsourced) and provide concise communication of the results throughtechnical reports and presentations. Partnership with the Marketing/Product PlanningSpecialists and Regulatory Specialists will assure Chinese customer feedback is appliedto product development activities and that submissions to SFDA and other regulatoryagencies are prepared accurately and in a timely fashion. In addition, this individual willaccelerate access to local technologies and will assist with developing competitivestrategies and product plans.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES？ Conduct computational analyses (primarily finite element analyses) of medical devices,instrumentation, materials and related anatomical structures？ Analyze, interpret, draw conclusions, and provide product design advice from resultsof analyses？ Coordinate the computational analysis workflow including the review of workrequests, monitoring of work progress, and review of work product？ Review proposals for computational-related research studies？ Manage external computational research activities carried out in universities andhospitals？ Mentor research and product development staff in the basic use of FEA？ Promote the benefit of front-line FEA as an integral part of the product developmentcycle？ Seek opportunities to promote the usefulness of FEA for regulatory submissions？ Prioritize workload and determine the appropriate level of computational complexity required to answer the fundamental questions？ Practice and promote good practices and rigor in research techniques, record keeping, and documentation in order to comply with internal and external quality standards/requirements？ Maintain and expand the quality system for documenting computational biomechanics activities？ Publish and present work in peer-reviewed venues and publications？ Actively participate in standards (ASTM, ISO) development and industry conferences in the area of FEA for medical devices？ Partner with biomechanical testing and product development teams to identify, develop, and validate new analysis tools to accelerate the new product development cycle？ Gather information and documents for background on innovative products and clinical uses. Use a fundamental knowledge of bioengineering along with advanced engineering principles to contribute to the design of novel products and instrumentation？ Serve as a structural mechanics technical expert for marketing and sales departments？ Interface with IT department to ensure a highly efficient, high performance computing environment？ Liaise with other MDT business units to share best practices for computational analysis and research？ Constantly strive to enhance efficiency in procedures without a compromise in quality？ Interface with customers. Travel will be significant across China to visit key customers and attend relevant conferences, and may entail business stays of 3-6 months in the United States. Must be willing to travel 30% for first year and 15-30% for subsequent years.BASIC QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED？ Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (or other Engineering or Sciences), or related field. Alternatively a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (or other Engineering or Sciences), or related field with 5 years of work experience is required.？ Expertise with FEA software such as ABAQUS and ANSYS, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint？ Speak and write Mandarin and English fluently.？ Excellent customer service skills, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.？ Able to travel up to 30% of the time, domestically and internationally.SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED？ Solid background in structural mechanics？ Excellent technical writing skills？ Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence others.？ Able to work effectively in heavily matrixed environment.？ Able to work in direct, cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.？ Able to develop objectives, work plans and measurements that are aligned with department strategies.？ Strong work ethic and initiative in accomplishing objectives.？ Demonstrated experience in meeting time to market needs with a high quality product.？ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.？ Strong organization and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS？ PhD in Biomedical engineering (or related technical degree)？ 3+ years of experience in biomedical research or development of medical products 职能类别：医疗器械研发
